Sending a signal

So there's a waitress / bartender at this local tavern that I'd really like to have as a sugar baby. And I just get the feeling she'd be into it, but I obviously don't know for sure.
How do you broach the subject?
Have you ever left a big tip as a signal and if so did it lead to anything?
